Part 107 Certificate

Do I need to have a Part 107 license to fly any drone?

You need a Part 107 license if:

  • You are flying a drone for non-recreational purposes, this means much more than:

    • Photography or videography for payment.

    • Inspections, mapping, or any business-related activity.

    • Creating content for monetized platforms like YouTube.

* You do not necessarily need to be compensated to be required to fly under Part 107

You don't need a Part 107 license if:

  • You are flying for recreational purposes and meet the following conditions:

    • The drone weighs less than 55 lbs (including any attachments).

    • You follow the FAA's recreational drone rules:

      1. Fly strictly for fun (this is not as simple as it sounds).

      2. Register your drone if it weighs more than 0.55 lbs (250 grams).

      3. Take The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) and carry proof of completion.

      4. Operate below 400 feet in uncontrolled airspace (Class G).

      5. Follow local rules and avoid restricted areas like airports or national parks.
